Lately I have seen alot of family and friends Facebook, Instagram, etc get hacked. Wierd DMs and odd messages that don’t sound like the way Grandma talks. With everyone getting hacked I wonder why don’t we protect our Online home like we protect our own Home?
Protecting your online presence is like protecting your home in several ways:
1. Locking the doors: Just as you lock the doors of your home to keep intruders out, you need to use strong passwords and two-factor authentication to keep cybercriminals from accessing your online accounts.
2. Installing security systems: You may install a security system in your home to monitor for any suspicious activity, and in the same way, you can use antivirus software and firewalls to monitor for any unusual activity on your devices or network.
3. Avoiding suspicious activities: In the physical world, you avoid suspicious activities such as leaving your keys in your car or opening the door for strangers. Similarly, in the digital world, you should avoid suspicious activities such as clicking on unknown links or downloading attachments from untrusted sources.
4. Regular maintenance: Just as you maintain your home by changing the locks, checking the windows, and ensuring that your home security system is up to date, you need to regularly update your software and operating system to ensure that your devices and network are secure.
5. Protecting your valuables: You may keep your valuable possessions in a safe or secure location in your home. Similarly, you should encrypt sensitive data and store it in a secure location such as a password-protected cloud service or an external hard drive.
By taking these steps, you can protect your online presence and your home from potential threats and safeguard your personal information and belongings.
